The Green Mile

The Green Mile – by Stephen King

The story is about the lives of guards and prisoners on a prison for death convicted. The green mile is the green painted path between the cell and the electric chair, the path every prisoner have to go. Abrupt the conditions in the prison change. One of prisoners turns out to have some supernatural powers. Powers that one of guards are in big need of.

I chose to write about this book to start the discussion about death penalty.
For or against?
I am against it. First because it only requires one wrongly convicted, one innocent sentenced to death penalty for the entire system to fail. And there is evidence that this has happened, more then once. And how can this ever be okay? Imagine you knowing this person, or being this person.
Second of all, who is given the right to take someone else life?
Is it then okay to kill in war as well? In my opinion it should never be okay to take someone else life, no matter what. I think instead of death penalty, the prisoners rights in the prison should be reduced.

Today the Swedish Constitution forbids death penalty but there are still countries that use this form of penalty, most commonly in China.

The story of stuff

I first just want to compliment Annie Leonard for a incredibly interesting and informativ video clip. It is people like Annie that are going to open our eyes so we can change this world before it is to late.

We can not ignore this problam any longer. We are living beyond our means and have so done for a long time. Words must now lead to action! Each and everyone of us have to look ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves if we are doing what we can to protect and take care of this earth. If not for our sake so for our children and their children. I think that the first action on the list is information. Information to the people in this world about the situation today and about the future. Like the ”the story of stuff” but maybe even more focused on what we can do (or should I write have to do) to reach sustainable development. Only when everybody have the understanding of todays situation first then can we begin to make it better. With everything from recycling to technological development..

Big brother is watching you

Okey, this is a current topic. The problem is that some people are misbehaving and the whole community will be punished.

All the persons that are examples in the text are doing something wrong and they get trapped. With todays technology everything is possible but does it make it right to use it? If you havn´t done anything wrong, then you have nothing to hide.

In a perfect world we wouldn´t need this kind of technology. People would go to work, exept when they are sick, work 8 hours with whatever they are ought to do and then go home. The problem is that we are not living in a perfekt world. People cheat, lie and use the system everyday.  The trust for the human beeing is gone and some actions have to be done.

I think the benefits are more and greater then the cons to use these types of technology. As long as they inform all concerned that they are using it.
