The Green Mile

The Green Mile – by Stephen King

The story is about the lives of guards and prisoners on a prison for death convicted. The green mile is the green painted path between the cell and the electric chair, the path every prisoner have to go. Abrupt the conditions in the prison change. One of prisoners turns out to have some supernatural powers. Powers that one of guards are in big need of.

I chose to write about this book to start the discussion about death penalty.
For or against?
I am against it. First because it only requires one wrongly convicted, one innocent sentenced to death penalty for the entire system to fail. And there is evidence that this has happened, more then once. And how can this ever be okay? Imagine you knowing this person, or being this person.
Second of all, who is given the right to take someone else life?
Is it then okay to kill in war as well? In my opinion it should never be okay to take someone else life, no matter what. I think instead of death penalty, the prisoners rights in the prison should be reduced.

Today the Swedish Constitution forbids death penalty but there are still countries that use this form of penalty, most commonly in China.
